VECTOR ART

Vector files are images comprised of a mathematical formula that uses dots and lines on a grid to form the details in an image. There are no pixels in a vector file. Since the formula can be re-calibrated, vector images can be re-sized with no loss in quality.

Vector files are more functional than raster files. They are most commonly used for logos and graphics that need to be used at a multitude of sizes. Common vector file types are Adobe Illustrator, EPS, PDF, & SVG. However, the contents of the file may not actually be vector. If you are unsure, feel free to send your files to us and we will determine if they are in fact vector or not.

RASTER ART

Raster files are images comprised of pixels; little colored squares that form the details in an image. The amount of pixels determines the image quality; a higher number of pixels results in a better quality image. This number of pixels is measured in DPI (Dots Per Inch) and helps determine the image’s resolution.

The limitation of these files is that they can lose image quality when re-sized. When zooming in on your image you will start to see the individual pixels. Raster files should always be printed at the size they were created. Raster files are most commonly used for photographs but can also be used for graphics and logos. Common file types for raster images are GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF & BMP.

We will assess your files and make sure they will print well at the intended size. We require vector files for all logos. Should you only have raster files for your logo, we can assist in converting/vectorizing them in most cases. Please send the files you have to our Office Manager and we will let you know what is possible along with a cost for the vectorizing.
